New Year’s Reflections
Looking back on the months gone by,
As a new year starts and an old one ends,
We contemplate what brought us joy,
And we think of our loved ones and our friends.
Recalling all the happy times,
Remembering how they enriched our lives,
We reflect upon who really counts,
As the fresh and bright new year arrives.
And when we ponder those who do,
we immediately think of you.
Thanks for being one of the reasons
We'll have a Happy New Year!

A Beautiful Christmas Thank You from a Young Person!
This is what the card says:
"Merry Christmas Covenant House Staff,
Thank you for all the help and support you have given me to get back on my feet…
You gave me hope and strength to be strong and giving me anything I needed and gave me a sense of community. Also, all those bus tickets and helping me overcome my addiction and just making me a responsible young man.

Youth Christmas Party!
Each year our staff, volunteers and donors work very hard to put on a magical Christmas party for our young people. The youth receive backpacks full of useful and fun items and have a wonderful turkey dinner and many other yummy treats. Pictured below is our CSS space just before the party is about to start, staff and volunteers are ready to serve our young people and make the day special for them. Please note we do not take pictures of your young people during the party to allow them their privacy and confidentiality.
Thanks to everyone who makes this party possible including our donors, volunteers and staff from many departments!

Thank you to the Glen Pine WHO Group!
by Tristan
We were recently visited by the Glen Pine WHO Group who brought us some much needed items for our young people. The Glen Pine WHO Group's mission is to get women who find themselves on their own back to enjoying being out in the community and in the company of other women in a safe, stress-free, and friendly environment. The WHO Group is a diverse group of women whose interests are friends, healthy living and the community.
A big thank you to everyone at the Glen Pine WHO Group for their generosity and for being there for our youth!

Amazing Gingerbread Town Made for Our Youth!
A Huge thanks to the BCAOMA for donating this amazing gingerbread town for our youth. Over 100 hours were spent constructing this little town which is completely edible and even adorned with lights! Covenant House has been the charity of choice for The BCAOMA and its members for the past 11 years, benefiting from both monetary and in-kind donations and we are so grateful for their support!

The cycle of giving
by EvanWith Christmas quickly approaching, some of the youth in the shelter have been contemplating what to give this year. Many of the youth have shown that despite their circumstances, giving a gift is very important to them. The team at Covenant House works together to find items that have been donated that are appropriate for youth who want to give a gift for someone else, rather than spending the money that they had worked hard to earn for their future outside of the shelter.
One youth proudly told his youth worker that he had visited his son for six hours recently and that he wanted to wrap some presents to his son for Christmas. This youth was surprised by his own skill level of wrapping these gifts as he laid everything out on the floor. I looked out the office window to see him focused; taking great care to do his best job wrapping these gifts, even getting help from another resident. I'm always surprised when, after awhile of relationship building with a youth, we learn they have children. It's inspiring to see how they have so much care and support for other loved ones, even as they struggle to get their feet on the ground while making the best of finding themselves in a crisis shelter.
