WorkSafeBC staff lend a helping hand to Covenant House

We have been fortunate to receive a very generous gift of $35,000 from the Helping Hands of WorkSafeBC for a brand-new walk-in freezer/cooler for our building! Our current freezer unit is near capacity, and while it was just what we needed for a really long time, our expansion over the years has pushed it to the limit. What's more, the current location of the unit in our Crisis Shelter makes for a lot of wasted space that could be better used for our youth.

Thanks to the Helping Hands of WorkSafeBC, we will be able to purchase and install a brand new cooler/freezer that is not only much larger, but also will be located in our downstairs parkade – meaning that we will have a lot more room to grow our Crisis Shelter as we move ahead. Being able to store more food will also help us to cut down on our food costs and gives us the opportunity to accept more donated goods from our community partners.

Helping Hands is WorkSafeBC's employee-run program that supports a wide variety of charitable organizations and supports their commitment to create healthier, safer, and more caring communities. A big thank you to them for making this possible!
