Follow Friday

Today we are taking a cue from the twitterverse and having a Follow Friday. #FollowFriday is an event that happens on Twitter each Friday, where Tweeter’s recommend who to follow using the #FollowFriday hash tag.

Today we are asking you to not only follow us on Twitter but to follow us on Facebook & Pinterest and to recommend us to your friends and family. Every time you share a post or re-tweet from us our message reaches more people and that does great things for Covenant House Vancouver and our young people!

Actions as simple as a “Like”, “Share” or “Re-Tweet” can truly make a difference in the lives of homeless youth. Thank you for your support and friendship.

Have a happy and safe Friday!

It has come to my attention that the food your facility provide to these young people goes to waste.

For example, Outside the Covenant House on Seymour Street in Vancouver. You see sandwiches and apples on the floor of some properties next door to the facility that young people threw them there as garbage. Not only that but water cups and soup cups are left there for owner of their properties to clean up as well. I myselt have mentioned this to the people of the Covenant house and guesst what? They don't do anything. They said it's not their problem. I have also talked with building owners next to the Covenant House, they said that another problem young people do around their properties is smoking. It seems that the only way to get the attention from the Covenant house is If I call CTV News and explore these topics in details and present all this to the public.

What do you think I should do?

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us and I have passed this comment on to the managers of our Shelter, Drop-In and Facilities programs. Unfortunately you did not use your name or give us any contact information so we could speak to you directly and address your concerns. I do encourage you to email us at info@covenanthousebc.org with your contact information so one of our managers can address your comment.

All of our youth are encouraged to use the proper garbage and recycling containers that we provide for them both inside and outside Covenant House Vancouver. Our maintenance team also picks up garbage and sweeps our outside property in the mornings and there is always a staff member available 24 hours a day 7 days a week at our front reception, so if you had an immediate concern you could speak with them as well.

Take care,
Kristy
