One of the events synonymous with summer in Vancouver is the Celebration of Light fireworks competition. Each year the Whole Foods Market on Robson Street donates their parking lot to three charities – one for each of the fireworks nights. Each charity can then sell parking spots to fireworks attendees with net profits going to the charity. Covenant House was fortunate to be one of the chosen charities on August 1– Brazil’s night to shine in the sky.
I had the pleasure of working with four dedicated Covenant House volunteers who, together with Whole Foods staff members, helped “choreograph” the parking of fireworks enthusiasts. Kudos to volunteers Steve and Robert for their boundless energy and superb customer relations skills! Volunteers Ramona and Andrea did a fantastic job with their signs, encouraging drivers to park in support of Covenant House.
