Endowment Funds
Established in 2002, the Principle Funds offer donors an opportunity to give a gift that will provide support in perpetuity to street youth who need a second chance. An endowment is an investment fund set aside for the long-term support of Covenant House Vancouver. Only the income, or a portion of the income is expended. The principal is preserved intact.
Our Principle funds are held at the Vancouver Foundation.
The Immediacy Fund:
Kids come to us in crisis, desperately requiring help. We provide for their basic needs — food, clothing, a shower, medical attention, and a safe bed — immediately.
Your gift to the Immediacy Fund will ensure that we can always respond to our youth when they need it — immediately.
The Sanctuary Fund:
Kids who are trying to get off the street are often scared and mistrustful. Our front line staff is instrumental in protecting them from the street and its terrors, and from the shame and humiliation of past failures. Young people can only grow and learn when they feel safe and protected.
Your gift to the Sanctuary Fund will ensure that when a youth first walks up to our front door, scared, alone, hungry and homeless, there will always be a friendly, caring and skilled person ready to help and guide them.
The Value Communication Fund:
Lying, cheating, stealing; these are part of the street code. We show our youth, by example, that wholesome, caring relationships are based on trust, respect and honesty.
Your gift to the Value Communication Fund will ensure that our youth will be exposed to experiences that teach honesty, integrity, self-reliance, self-confidence and caring. As well as skills and resources that will serve them life-long.
The Structure Fund:
Street life is very unstructured. Kids on the street never know where they will get their next meal. We provide the structure and stability of legitimate and carefully articulated expectations without a lot of rules and regulations. This helps them alleviate anxiety and allows them to focus on planning their next steps.
Your gift to the Structure Fund will ensure that our youth will always have a house, and it will always feel like home.
The Choice Fund:
Young people often feel powerless to control their lives. They fall into self-defeating cycles of failure. We encourage our kids to make serious choices about their future and can show them options that they had never thought of or been exposed to before. They must choose to change, to believe they can make it, to believe that tomorrow can be better.
The Choice Fund will be available to cover any need that is seen as necessary for the youth to move forward. The fund will be extremely flexible in order to respond to the changing needs of our kids now and in the future.
Named Funds:
Within the five Principle Funds is the ability to have named funds. The minimum donation for a named fund is $25,000 . A named fund is a way of memorializing and honouring those the fund is named after. It also offers a kind of immortality by perpetuating that person's name and values.
Named Designated Funds:
Within the five Principle Funds is the ability to have a named designated fund. The minimum donation for a named designated fund is $250,000. Donors with a named designated fund will be able to choose where the income from their fund goes within a chosen Principle Fund. They will be able to designate to a program of their choice every five years. After their death the family will have the option of choosing the designation.
