Covenant House opens 15 extra beds
Covenant House is thrilled to report that we have opened the first 15 extra beds (for a total of 32) of our shelter expansion. Due to overwhelming need, we turned 400 young people away during each of the last two years and we have been working to expand our shelter services for the past 18 months.
In addition to the support of over 50,000 individuals, Covenant House is grateful to the Province of British Columbia, Service Canada and VANOC for their one-time support of our shelter expansion.
We opened the extra beds in renovated space at our Pender Street building on June 2 and were full by the end of the first week, underscoring the tremendous need these extra beds are filling for Vancouver's street youth.
