Homelessness Action Week - October 12 - 19, 2008
There are many events planned for the week of October 12 - 19, Homelessness Action Week. Covenant House will be at the Homeless Connect event Friday October 17, at Belkin House, 555 Homer Street, 10:00 - 3:00 p.m. A vareity of direct services to homeless people will be provided including:
* Haircuts
* Footbaths
* Pro bono legal services
* Acupuncture and complimentary medicine for addiction, stress, etc.
* Income Assistance application intake
* Youth, aboriginal, mental health outreach workers
* Street nurses (HIV testing, outreach style nursing treatments)
* Employment training programs (Bladerunners)
* Outreach staff to connect people to shelters
* Help with old age pension
* WISH Mobile Access Van to provide a safe place for women
* Info on how to deal with bedbugs
* Music
* Food
* Hygiene kits
* Clothing (socks, rain ponchos, shoes, coats, pants, sweaters)
* And more!
