Get Rid of Your Old Mattress, Help CHV!
On Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 MattressRecycling.ca is offering free mattress, box spring and futon collection for Metro Vancouver residents in exchange for a bag of non-perishable food items for Covenant House Vancouver.

Mattresses must be ready for collection at the front door and certain conditions apply. Arrange your pick up during the by calling 604-973-0183 or emailing info@mattressrecycling.ca to book your donation!

TD Night of New Beginnings Gala Raises $129,000!
by KristyThe TD Night of New Beginnings Gala is an integral part of Covenant House Vancouver's 30 days for 30 night's campaign, which aims to raise funds to cover the operating costs of the Crisis Shelter for the busiest month of the year, December. This year's event generated $129,000 for the 30 days for 30 night's campaign! All of the funds raised at the TD Gala were matched by an anonymous donor.
Our thanks to everyone who attended, donated auction items and helped to make the TD Night of New Beginnings Gala a huge success. A special thanks to TD for all your support and for going above and beyond in helping to end youth homelessness. Special thanks also to Lainey for being our wonderful MC!
Please enjoy some great pictures from the evening:

Looking for something fun to do this weekend in Vancity?

"The Downtown Eastside is the founding neighbourhood where Vancouver began and is home for thousands of residents. To celebrate the city’s 125th anniversary, we are telling stories of our past and present as we reach out to build our community. In the words of poet and historian the late Sandy Cameron, “each of us has something to tell, something to teach.” And we invite you to join us.
Since time immemorial stories have been told on this land and they are still being told today – in all kinds of traditions and forms: as paintings, poetry, songs and ceremonies … words and walks, workshops and talks … as memories, murals, jazz and media … from hip hop, rap, dance to opera … from food and clothes to celebration … from cultural expressions to cultural fusions.
The over 100 events in this year’s festival offer an astonishing testament to the talent, wisdom and power of this community and its capacity to give voice to the concerns of today and the heritage of yesterday; to celebrate our diversity and achievements; to honour those we have lost; to stretch out a hand to neighbours across the city and the province; and to advocate for our visions and dreams. May the stories of our festival provide understanding and inspiration as together we build our future, in the heart of our city.
