How do I get help from the Drop-In?
You just show up during open hours and a staff person will be happy to help you out or answer any questions for you. Or you can call the Outreach Workers on their cell phone (604-968-8526)
What if I don't live near the Drop-In/CHV?
You can call during open hours and a CSC Worker will do their best to help you find services and supports in your community — without you having to come here.
What if I'm not homeless?
Covenant House and the staff in the Drop-In are committed to helping all young people. Sometimes young people don't know who to turn to with a problem or a question they might have. The last thing we want is for you to become homeless or to feel like you have no where to turn. Call us — no matter what your living situation is, no matter what your question is, just call.
Is it safe for me to go there? Will I feel comfortable?
The Drop-In is a very safe place — sanctuary (or safety) is one of the principles that we operate Covenant House on. You might feel a little bit out of place like the first day at a new school or attending a new community centre, but the Drop-In Youth Workers provide a warm and comfortable welcome for everyone who comes here.
What if my problem is really difficult to talk about, or embarrassing?
Workers are trained in helping young people with any problem. We want you to know that other young people have had experiences, problems and questions similar to the ones that you're having right now. The Workers are patient and non-judgmental listeners who will help you sort out your problem. Remember asking for help takes courage, and there is no reason to be embarrassed.
If I come there for help, what kind of information will you want to know about me?
To receive help in the Drop-In, the only information you'll need to give the Workers is your name, your date of birth and a emergency contact number (in case of a medical emergency where you couldn't make that telephone call yourself). Covenant House follows all federal and provincial laws to protect a person's privacy. Any information that we receive about you is kept confidential.
