Community Outreach and Education

In addition to participation within Covenant House, DSV reaches out to the community through the use of workshops, videos, and publications to advocate for youth and promote youth participation in other agencies and the community.

Workshops:

DSV members have created a variety of workshops appropriate for all ages. The most popular called The Real Game of Life (aka Poverty and Resources), is a day-in-the-life of homeless youth. The goal of this workshop is to educate youth and adults alike about who homeless youth are; how they become homeless; the dangers of street life and, a variety of day-to-day issues that these youth are faced with. Workshop participants are challenged to problem solve a variety of scenarios and later, share their impressions in a group discussion.

Video:

Making Youth Participation Real , is a video journal produced by DSV members outlining our history, mission, goals and helpful hints for others interested in introducing similar youth-driven initiatives. The video is available to the public for a suggested donation of $10.00. Please contact Yvonne Andrews at 604-647-4480 if you are interested in receiving this video.

Publications:

The Van 'Zine is a publication for clients of CHV and is produced on a quarterly basis by the editorial team of DSV. Content of the 'Zine includes a wide variety of poetry, prose, critiques, rants, art work, photography and updates on new programs and opportunities in the community.
