King Arthur

Kyle, a client who recently moved out to live independently at the St Helen’s Hotel, often comes for brief services (visits) on the overnight shifts.  Kyle has an endearing innocence about him that is quite childlike and playful.  This particular night as Kyle was eating his soup he told us how he missed Covenant House and was feeling lonely.  He also told us how he is having a hard time sleeping.  I looked up above a cabinet in the staff office and noticed a teddy bear had been recently donated.

I grabbed the teddy bear and introduced it to Kyle, hoping that he might want take it come take home so he had something to cuddle up with at night.  Kyle’s eyes lit up and he had a smile that went from ear to ear!  I asked Kyle what he was going to name the bear and without hesitation and with the teddy bear in tow under his arm, he gleefully yelled, “King Arthur!”  I told Kyle that I thought that was a perfect name for his new buddy.  Now when Kyle presents for brief service we will ask him how King Arthur is doing.  I’m sure he will have many stories of the adventures that he and his new friend will partake.
