Dear Covenant House Staff,

We are always so happy to hear from a family member or friend of a youth we have helped. This letter arrived through email late last week and it was a great way to end off a busy week. Thanks for your kind words!

Dear Covenant House Staff,

I want to thank you all for recently giving a young women some structure, some much needed rules, food, a warm bed and a caring atmosphere.

I am a long time monthly donor to C.H. and have had this young woman in my life since she was seven years old when she showed up in my classroom in her pyjamas with no breakfast, no shoes or socks, no lunch and little learning ability. That was 14 years ago and she has been bounced around in over thirty foster care situations. I have ALWAYS helped her and kept in very close contact. Her family is very compromised and I have been one of her main mentors and care givers. Circumstances did not allow me to foster her so I did what I could when I could. Until recently she has always had shelter and food as she was on welfare. She now has a full time job, a nine month old son and finds herself in a dire situation. I have told her time and time again to go to C.H. and finally through desperation she went. She is now over the moon about “you” and if it was possible she would probably want stay forever.

This has been a rather long winded letter but the bottom line is I wanted to thank you so much for helping where I no longer could. She needs help finding housing, managing her money and structure that keeps her out of trouble and so far you have provided all of this, but it has only been a week.

She told me that the staff thinks she is the politest and most well mannered person that you’ve had there, I was so proud to hear that.

Her name is Joanne Smith and we both thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Warm regards,
Sally Jones
