We are here to honour and support our youth on their journey

We often journey with a young person for a while (sometimes a long while) but we don’t always get to see where their journey leads them. Recently we had a surprise visit in CSS from a young man we had worked with over the last couple of years but had not seen in a while. He dropped in with his girlfriend and child to say hi and let us know how he was doing. It was wonderful to see him and to see that he was doing so well.

Not too long ago he was struggling with some strong addictions issues and would disappear from time to time. After one of those times he showed up to get some support and introduced us to his girlfriend and let us know she was pregnant. At that point we weren’t sure what was going to happen with him or his child.  We were able to help him with some housing support (i.e. furniture shopping and a few start-up items, and a few necessary baby items) but then again did not hear from him until now.

It was exciting to see that he was clean and sober, working and doing well. He was a very happy dad and he and his girlfriend were doing a great job parenting their child. Not all of our youth’s journeys end this happily and they may struggle for a long time but sometimes everything clicks and we get to see a strong, independent adult emerge. The important thing is that we are here to honour and support our youth on their journey, wherever it may take them.
