“He feels like he is in Sears, only better!”

For the last month I have been running the clothing room for the shelter residents on Thursday nights. The clothing room is always so well maintained by our volunteers and the Gift in Kind staff, so the youth look forward to going up once a week to see what they can find. The youth’s eyes go wide when they enter and they really enjoy going through all the items and even helping their friends find something.

One night a youth even commented that when he comes up to the clothing room he feels like he is in Sears, only better! I think our donors take for granted the kind act they have done by dropping off a bag of clothes for our youth. Often times their time on the street has created some serious wear and tear to their socks and shoes. A new pair of socks can really brighten their day. We get some great clothes that the youth think are cool and they feel so proud when they have their new outfit on. I get a lot of pleasure hanging out with them while they chose new clothes and chat with me. I feel a sense of pride too, knowing that even the small things that we are able to provide, go a long way in helping us build relationships with our youth.
