New board games for our young people

Shelter volunteer Dan Barak collected 11 new board games for us.  He noticed that many of our board games were missing pieces and since this is his favourite activity to do with the youth, he took it upon himself to go find new ones. He says that playing games is a great way for him to connect and chat with the shelter youth. Below is a note from Dan about his volunteer experience with Covenant House Vancouver.

“A friend told me about Covenant House Vancouver, the more I learned about the work CHV does, the more I felt it was important for me to contribute there. After completing training with Amanda, CHV’s volunteer coordinator, I began volunteering as a Shelter Assistant, interacting with the youth every week.

So far it has been a humbling experience. I’ve discovered wonderful individuals who face very difficult situations in life. We talk, watch TV, and play board games together. I’ve gradually bonded with the youth; I’ve also learned a lot about what it means to be a street youth.” – Dan
