LGBTQ2S Youth Homeless in Canada

Covenant House Vancouver believes all youth deserve unconditional love and absolute respect and we are always striving to provide safe, inclusive services for the disproportionate number of homeless LGBTQ2S youth in need of shelter and supportive services. Our program staff receive Prism Services training from Three Bridges Community Health Centre which provides clinical, education, information and referral service for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and Two Spirit (LGBTQ2S) communities in Vancouver.

The Homeless Hub has an informative article about the disproportionate number of homeless LGBTQ2S youth in Canada and North America, we encourage you to have a read and learn more.

In recent years, there has been extensive research in the area of youth homelessness both in Canada and internationally. We have seen a great deal of initiatives towards the movement to end youth homelessness. However, there is a lack of knowledge into the problem of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, and 2-spirited (LGBTQ2) youth homeless in Canada.

What we do know is that LGBTQ2 youth are overrepresented in the homeless youth population. It has been estimated that approximately 25-40% of homeless youth  identify as LGBTQ2.” –  Taken  from  The  Homeless  Hub  article Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning and 2-Spirited (LGBTQ2)
