Our young women experience a very special evening of pampering and self-care

On Monday evening, our girls had the opportunity to participate in a very special evening in collaboration with  I Like Her Style Vancouver Magazine  and ILHSV’s co-founder  Jody Belanger.

Our  Drop-In Centre  was set up in activity stations and the girls received personalized outfit styling with cool clothes that were theirs for the keeping, accessories, make up and bra fittings. The bra fittings done by  Forever Yours Lingerie  and  Boutique Blanche Intimates  were incredibly popular with our youth because not only did they received their right size of bra but it also was packed up in a special way for them. It is definitely a basic human need to have comfortable support and one homeless women often lack. The women from I Like Her Style Vancouver were wonderful with the girls in the clothing room, helping them find clothes that fit and were in their style.  Stacey Rae, a life coach was also on hand to have some great conversations and the girls loved having their make-up done by  AX Art Makeup.

39 young women from a variety of our  programs  attended and they were vocal about loving the special event, they particularly liked having several activities in different areas that they could travel around to, and a chatting circle in the middle of the room gave a real sense of community.  Our youth shared great feedback, including that it was a ‘celebration of sisterhood’, that the special efforts were ‘A+’, and that they would come again and bring friends.

The extra effort that the ILHSV and all the volunteers & donors went to, to make the girls feel special was lovely and the girls left with a feeling of community and inclusion. Thank you to the volunteers, those who donated items and Jody Belanger who were all so passionate about giving the girls a positive and memorable experience!
