Development Officer, Fundraising Opportunities – Mat Leave Contract



Covenant House Vancouver is the premier provider of residential and support services for our city’s homeless youth, and we are growing! You will be joining a team of dedicated and committed people whose mission is to help at-risk young people move off the streets and on to independence.

Job Overview 

The Development Officer, Fundraising Opportunities is responsible for researching and developing funding opportunities, writing fundraising documents, and organizing materials to support the Development team at Covenant House Vancouver (CHV). The role will be the primary point person for the Development team and will research content both internally with the Program staff, Quality Assurance staff and Finance team, and externally with resources related to our youth and purpose.  The role is cross-departmental and success will rely on the ability to support the fundraising team in producing successful proposals.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Research and prepare compelling proposals, grant submissions, reports and cases for support to assist the Development Team
  • Gather and track Program data relevant to Development Team needs and identify gaps in data that are relevant to donor interests
  • Liaise with CHV Subject Matter experts (Quality Assurance, Program Managers) as needed for proposal preparation and grant reporting requirements
  • Explore, maintain, and update a list of Funding Opportunities for the Development Team to present to donors
  • Work collaboratively with Development team members to contribute to stewardship, cultivation and solicitation strategies for major donors
  • Research current trends in youth homelessness, mental health, addictions and connect Covenant House back to these global issues
  • Promote a culture that is donor-centric, where requests from internal and external stakeholders are responded to with a high degree of urgency, professionalism and accuracy
  • Prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet numerous deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years working for non-profits or related education and experience
  • Highly developed research, writing and editing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage key relationships with internal staff at all levels
  • Creative, resourceful, and innovative
  • Big picture thinker with attention to detail
  • Ability to work toward deadlines
