Employee Engagement Specialist (one year contract)

Covenant House Vancouver is the premier provider of residential and support services for our city’s homeless youth, and we are growing! You will be joining a team of dedicated and committed people whose mission is to help at-risk young people move off the streets and on to independence.

The Employee Engagement Specialist develops and supports initiatives that lead to positive impact in employee engagement and agency culture while aligning with strategic goals. They collaborate across the organization, to manage employee programs including engagement, employer branding, culture, internal communication, recognition, and wellness.  They are the lead resource for change management in the agency, and work with employees and leaders across all departments in the development and strengthening of programs and initiatives to provide a workplace where employees say I “LOVE” working at Covenant House.



Our Employee Engagement Specialist will report to the Director, People and Culture to deliver innovative and creative ways to improve performance, satisfaction, and the overall experience in the workplace.  Your colleagues will include our Recruiter, HR Advisor, Manager of Program Staff Training & Development, Manager of Employee Services, and our HR Assistant who ties everyone and everything together.  You will work with frontline staff such as youth workers and social workers, the Operations team keeping our spaces beautiful and the youth well-fed, and a Fundraising team that engages the community to support Covenant House.  And we guarantee these will be the best and most inspiring colleagues you’ve ever had.



Employee Engagement
  • Manage annual third-party engagement review process, including partner selection, survey design, survey admin, and results communication.
  • Work with the HR Advisor to review and track departmental engagement action plans
  • Together with Manager, Employee Services, update and promote agency employer brand
  • Coordinate seasonal and ongoing Engagement activities


Agency Culture
  • Lead Initiatives that positively impact our employee experience and culture
  • Identify and implement programs and processes to embed culture
  • Manage “Renewal” staff annual general meeting
  • Manage CHV branded clothing program


Internal Communications
  • Manage multiple internal communications channels, including weekly staff updates, intranet, anonymous feedback channel, and bulletin boards
  • Together with Recruiter, maintain and update CHV Careers website
  • Contribute to plans and execution of All Team Meeting


Employee Recognition
  • Manage all recognition programs including peer recognition, service awards, and our annual employee excellence awards
  • Lead all employee recognition efforts such as special events and team building activities
  • Coordinate annual employee holiday party (with agency-wide committee assistance)


Employee Wellness 
  • Create and implement employee wellness initiatives/programs such as Workplace Wellness Month and Mental Health Week
  • Manage Not Myself Today Program


Change Management
  • Create and implement new change management practices
  • Develop and disseminate best practices in change management
  • Advise departments on change management in their areas



Experience & Skills
  • 2 – 3 years experience in Human Resources, Marketing & Communications, Event Planning or something similar if you feel you it has given you the relevant experience needed
  • A proven track record for creating and implementing your new ideas and programs
  • You are intensely employee-focused and have worked to improve the employee experience at a previous workplace.
  • Ability to show your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to gather and present information and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders
  • Working with sensitive and confidential information, you will use your skills, tact, and diplomacy to handle this information with care
