Human Resources Advisor

Our HR Advisor will report to the Manager, Employee Services, and will work to deliver innovative and creative ways to improve performance, satisfaction, and the overall experience in the workplace.  Your colleagues will include our Recruiter, Employee Experience Lead, Manager of Program Staff Training & Development, Director of People & Culture, and our HR Assistant who ties everyone and everything together.  You will work with frontline staff such as youth workers and social workers, the Operations team keeping our spaces beautiful and the youth well-fed, and a Fundraising team that engages the community to support Covenant House.  And we guarantee these will be the best and most inspiring colleagues you’ve ever had.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Lead the communication and implementation of human resources programs and initiatives and facilitates HR related training sessions. 
  • Act as the main point of contact for managers and staff in all locations to answer HR-related inquiries.  
  • Answer employee and manager questions on P&C policies and practices and provide policy interpretation and guidance as required. 
  • Conduct new employee Check-ins and report regularly on themes and trends to ensure employees are well supported from the beginning. 
  • Conduct exit interviews and report regularly on themes and trends to identify areas of improvement for departments. 
  • Provide coaching to managers for employee relations issues. Conducting investigations and administrating progressive discipline. 
  • Keep all employee records up to date in the HRIS, ensuring quality and completeness and providing reports and analysis as requested. 
  • coaching managers through the probationary and annual performance review process by training managers and employees on using the online system. 
  • consult department managers on creating their annual engagement action plans, based on the results for their departments. 
  • Manage claims for STD, LTD, WorkSafe, maternity, and other leaves, and oversee the RTW process
  • Provide information to employees on various benefits programs and liaise with Payroll department as needed. 
  • Provide immigration support to employees. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 


  • Degree/diploma in Business and/or Human Resources
  • 3 years of HR experience as a human resources generalist
  • CPHR designation a strong asset


  • Knowledge of HR practices and principles 
  • Consulting and coaching skills 
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge of employment legislation. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills across multiple levels.
  • Track record of executing and delivering on projects.   
  • Skilled in using an HRIS.
