Intermediate Accountant



Covenant House Vancouver is the premier provider of residential and support services for our city’s homeless youth, and we are growing! You will be joining a team of dedicated and committed people whose mission is to help at-risk young people move off the streets and on to independence.

In order to be hired at Covenant House Vancouver as an employee, practicum student, or volunteer, candidates must provide evidence of full courses of Health-Canada approved vaccinations prior to starting their first shift.

 

Working independently, the Intermediate Accountant will use their training and experience to provide full cycle financial and clerical services including processing and monitoring of invoices and payments, month end reconciliations, and ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date.  This position interacts with internal and external customers providing excellent service and works collaboratively to solve problems.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Accurately prepare, verify, and code invoices and process payments
  • Prepare the weekly AP run including EFT payments and manual cheques
  • Maintain up to-date accounts receivable and payable listings /vendor files
  • Perform bank reconciliations for a group of bank accounts
  • Maintain the general ledger including month end prepaids, fixed assets, deferred revenues schedules and prepare draft financial statements
  • Assist with CRA filings (GST & Annual Charity Return Information) and other reporting requirements
  • Provide excellent customer service and build internal/external relationships
  • Perform the day to day processing of financial transactions to ensure financial records are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.
  • Other miscellaneous clerical duties when required

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of practical accounting experience and 3 years college or university education with Finance/Accounting Diploma or Degree
  • Hands on experience with Accpac (Sage 300) an asset
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel an asset
  • AP/AR Full cycle experience
