Manager, Leadership Giving



Covenant House Vancouver is the premier provider of residential and support services for our city’s homeless youth, and we are growing! You will be joining a team of dedicated and committed people whose mission is to help at-risk young people move off the streets and on to independence.

In order to be hired at Covenant House Vancouver as an employee, practicum student, or volunteer, candidates must provide evidence of full courses of Health-Canada approved vaccinations prior to starting their first shift.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Development, the Manager, Leadership Giving oversees a portfolio of high potential donors and collaborates with the development team to integrate both donor-focused and community-centered practices, where appropriate. A confident and experienced asker who prioritizes engaging directly with highly invested supporters required. Responsible for managing and coaching the work of the Development Associate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

Capital Campaign Transition
  • Develops and oversees ongoing stewardship and solicitation plans for all capital campaign donors.
  • Oversees the transition of some capital campaign donors to operating donors, working with other relationship managers as required
  • Oversees pledge due reminders are communicated and fulfilled, with support from the Associate, and in collaboration with other relationship managers as appropriate
  • Liaises with expansion team to monitor project details for communicating to donors.
  • Responsible for ensuring recognition commitments are fulfilled and within the scope of the project (donor wall, plaque design and placement, opening events, etc.)

 

Leadership Giving Program Development
  • Leveraging a successful capital campaign, the Manager helps develop a leadership giving program with the Senior Manager, focused on raising sustainable operating funding that will ensure our core programs and youth support are successfully fulfilled.
  • Personally manages the life-cycle of approximately 150 donors and prospects, including some who interface with the Senior Management Team. Ensures donors’ interests and passions are met with current and future giving opportunities.
  • Works with team members to strategize on securing major gifts from key donors and prospects, including advising on next steps, proposals, and stewardship.
  • With the Senior Manager and Development Officer, Funding Opportunities, works across the agency to find meaningful stewardship, educational and volunteer opportunities for leadership giving donors.
  • With the Senior Manager and other D&C managers, develops and manages relationships with senior fundraising volunteers.

 

General Leadership
  • Provides input into the development of the department’s goals, objectives, policies, long range planning and strategies for future growth.
  • Assists in the ongoing development and evolution of the leadership giving program at CHV.
  • Provides coaching and mentorship to the Development Associate and other team members related to major and leadership gift opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

 

Qualifications
  • Five+ years of development experience, preferably in major gift fundraising
  • Experience leading people (preferred)
  • Some post-secondary education (preferred) or related experience

 

Skills
  • Strong understanding of major gift programs and structures to support them, as well as emerging trends in philanthropy
  • Understands what motivates people to give and communicates in a way that compels them to give
  • Demonstrated ability to write, communicate and present complex information
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines; and flexibility to respond quickly to inquiries and shifting priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Raisers Edge NXT or similar database preferred
