About Covenant House Vancouver

Since 1997, Covenant House Vancouver has provided relentless support for youth experiencing, or at-risk of experiencing, homelessness. We provide support to young people age 16 to 24 who have experienced a wide range of early life and ongoing, complex trauma; including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect. Our purpose is to serve all youth, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and provide a safe and supportive environment for all youth in need.

 

This is a Canada Summer Jobs position for the duration of 8 weeks, 35 hours per week with the chance of becoming a permanent position. To be eligible, candidates must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment ; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

 

 *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

 

 The impact the Program Assistant can make:

The Program Assistant provides administrative support and project support to the Associate Director, Clinical Services and Program Development. Maintains neat, orderly, complete documents and project files. The project assistant will be responsible for project research, creating briefing notes, creating reports and project documents, and assisting supervisor with tasks as assigned.

 

How you will contribute

  • Aid in the preparation of project research, documents  and relevant project tasks
  • Maintain accurate records of all information related to projects for documentation, clarification, and presentation to management
  • Liaise with stakeholders and complete research
  • Assist in monitoring and tracking project progress, scheduling, and project status
  • Offer general assistance to Associate Director as needed
  • Provide support with miscellaneous data entry
  • Assisting with related clerical duties such as photocopying, data entry, filing, and collating

 

Who are we looking for?

Education and Experience:

  • Highschool diploma required
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role
  • Experience working in a youth serving organization an asset
  • Preference will be given to those who have personal experience or have aged out of care

 Skills

  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Proven ability to preform literature reviews
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and be solution focused
  • Ability to manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of issues related to youth homelessness
