About Covenant House Vancouver

Since 1997, Covenant House Vancouver has provided relentless support for youth experiencing, or at-risk of experiencing, homelessness. We provide support to young people age 16 to 24 who have experienced a wide range of early life and ongoing, complex trauma; including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect. Our purpose is to serve all youth, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and provide a safe and supportive environment for all youth in need.

Would you like to contribute your senior financial and management skills to life-changing services provided to at-risk young people in our community?  This is your opportunity to serve on the Senior Management Team at one of Vancouver’s most well-run and beloved non-profit organizations.  Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working with the Board of Directors, you will provide innovative leadership and oversight of accounting, property development and maintenance, and technological innovation.  You will lead the development and implementation of policies, processes, and controls. Your impact will come from working effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders to identify, align, and communicate Covenant House’s strategic vision, and support excellence in business operations.  You will be a key contributor to strategic planning and execution of the organization’s goals.

How you will contribute…

  • Oversee the management of the Finance, Facilities & Food Services, and Technology & Innovation departments.
  • Support the development and execution of Covenant House Vancouver’s goals, policies, long range planning, strategies for future development and feasibility studies to ensure ongoing success of the Agency.
  • Act as the primary senior management liaison with external/internal auditors, general legal counsel, and other business regulatory bodies.
  • Provide financial leadership of the organization, keeping the CEO informed and up to date with respect to the organization’s finances and their implications
  • Work closely with funding-seeking departments (Philanthropy and Public Affairs) to balance revenue generation with spending; build strong relationships with funders
  • Participate, ex officio, in Board of Directors and sub-committee meetings
  • In partnership with the Finance team, responsible for developing and implementing policies & procedures, adequate financial controls, overseeing annual budget planning and reporting as well as annual external & periodic internal audits
  • Prepare financial statements and reports for Covenant House International, Board of Directors and Committees
  • Oversee reporting on payroll and accounting, taxation, privacy, and capital assets planning and management for CEO and Board of Directors
  • Handle non-HR legal issues, oversee risk management issues, and manage requirements of BC Societies Act
  • Provide input into the development of department goals, objectives, policies, long range planning, and strategies for future development
  • Identify service gaps and opportunities, and oversee initiatives to address them
  • Monitor outcome measures, goal achievement, and key performance indicators
  • Attend to community partnerships and represent the agency at public functions and activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Who are we looking for?

Education and Experience:

  • CPA Accounting designation is mandatory
  • University degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a management position, ideally at an executive level.
  • Experience in property management
  • Experience with introducing information systems.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors, ideally including having worked on or with a non-profit Board will be considered an asset

  • Strong financial management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Solid judgement and interpersonal / negotiation skills
  • Current knowledge of technology, including the Microsoft 365 suite
  • Innovative thinker and vocal leader
  • Passionate about the mission of the organization.
  • Understands, in-depth, budget models and contracts; particularly in a non-profit setting.
  • Is well-networked in function-specific associations.
  • Strong team-building and problem-solving skills, and the ability to and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment
  • Track record of generating new ideas/solutions that have been successfully implemented
  • Ability to establish trust and rapport with managers and employees at all levels, and lead purposefully and effectively
