A young person staying in our Crisis Program who is originally from Mexico expressed wanting to celebrate El Dia de los Reyes, so that’s what we did.
El Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings Day) is celebrated on January 6th and together we watched a short video explaining about the celebration while enjoying a special kind of bread.
El Dia de los Reyes involves Rosca de Reyes which is eaten during this time and embedded within the bread is a plastic baby that is meant to represent baby Jesus. Whoever gets this baby is said to receive good luck.
Covenant House Vancouver works hard to celebrate the cultural diversity of our youth and learning about El Dia de los Reyes was a great way to do that.
