It’s National Teacher Appreciation Day!

National Teacher Appreciation Day recognizes our dedicated educators from across the country. The National Education Association describes National Teacher Day “as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.”

Teachers are amazing for so many reasons, and we just wanted to highlight a few:

They give love, attention, and acceptance to all kids, something we believe in strongly at Covenant House.
They comfort and care for those kids with some of the deepest needs, sometimes a teacher may be the most caring adult a child interacts with all day. You may remember how Andrew Teel requested a hug from daycare teacher Sandy and that hug led him to find his forever family.

They help teach important character traits like kindness, patience, honesty, and philanthropy.
Every day we see how teachers inspire kids and youth to give back and make a difference. We are so lucky to work with so many wonderful teachers and schools it would not be fair to list only a few. But please know how grateful we are for your support and all you do for Covenant House Vancouver. Every single day you are truly making a difference not only in the lives of the children you teach but in the lives of youth who are experiencing homelessness.

Teachers meet children and youth where they are at and help them to realize their dreams.
Children and youth who are experiencing homelessness often have barriers to education. Teachers, counsellors, and schools often go above and beyond to support the kids that need it most, they support young people to receive the education they deserve. The Homeless Hub talks in detail about education and youth homelessness.

Thank you, teachers, for all you do for children, youth, and our community!
