Call for Art Submissions: Deadline Dec 6th!

Covenant House Vancouver is excited to announce that it is seeking art submissions from local artists for spaces in two of its buildings! Be an inspiring part of a youth’s journey. Deadline for submissions is December 6th.

Project Submission #1: New Building

A new 10-storey building is under construction at the corner of Drake St. and Seymour St. in downtown Vancouver. It will provide 75 additional beds for our Crisis Program. This building will also have a gym, fitness room, art room, and education room, plus two floors for administration, counselling, and social work services.

Inside the entrance of this new building there is a prominent wall space where we would like to display a piece of art by a local artist. This work will be viewed by all who visit this building—including youth, staff, volunteers, and donors. It needs to be representative of Covenant House Vancouver’s core values and principles, and appeal to the youth that we serve.

This piece should not include violence, sexualization, or subjects that can spark trauma.

Awarded Amount

  • $100 will be awarded to three artists for rough concept drawings, who make it to Stage Two of the selection process (paid by gift card of artist’s choice—this includes Visa Gift Cards).
  • $1,500 will be awarded to the successful artist for the final piece. The artist’s name will appear with completed piece, in our main lobby.

Project Submission #2: Seymour Location

We are looking for local, Indigenous art for our Drop-In Centre and housing program spaces at 1302 Seymour Street, in Vancouver. These spaces are often a youth’s first experience of Covenant House Vancouver. Here, staff provide an array of services to young people who drop in or participate in one of our housing programs. Services include hot meals, clothes, and counselling.

To make the spaces more inclusive for youth, we would like to decorate them with some youth-friendly, local, Indigenous art. There are three pillars in the drop-in space, and we are looking for three different designs to wrap around each of these pillars. Two of these pillars extend up to our housing floors, where two of the patterns will be repeated. The artwork needs to be representative of Covenant House Vancouver’s core values and principles, and appeal to the youth that we serve.

These pieces should not include violence, sexualization, or subjects that can spark trauma.

Awarded Amount

  • $1,000 for all three final designs. The artist’s name should be included on the designs.

Please note that the deadline for submissions for both projects is December 6, 2021!

Please direct any questions to expansion@covenanthousebc.org.

Best of luck to all artists. We can’t wait to see your designs!
