June is National Indigenous History Month, in Canada.
In Canada, Indigenous people face homelessness at a massively disproportionate rate, when compared to other groups.
It is important that we reflect on the systems that led to this and take time to learn about the unique traditions, cultures, and experiences of Indigenous people, across Canada.
If you want to embrace this month, there are many ways to get involved, including:
- Seek out First Nations, Inuit and Métis stories and traditions. You could do this by reading a book or finding local activists on social media. Whatever it is, take the time to engage mindfully and truthfully.
- Take the opportunity to learn. There are many spaces and resources available to engage with and learn more about the history (view some learning resources).
- Join Indigenous communities who are holding public celebrations on June 21, for National Indigenous Peoples Day.
- Show your support by using the hashtag #NIHM2025.
This month, we will be sharing the work that we do with Indigenous youth, how we are dedicated to continuous learning, and what Indigenous organizations you can support.
