The holiday season is upon us!
Through the hustle and bustle of shopping for gifts, preparing to welcome guests, and planning to visit loved ones, it’s important to take a step back and remind ourselves of what’s important — spreading kindness and sharing joy. We hope that you will take pride in knowing that you have indeed spread kindness and shared joy, this year, to many young people in need.
We would like to share what the young people at Covenant House Vancouver (CHV) will be doing over the holidays.
Nothing gets you into the joyous spirit of the holidays like visiting iconic Vancouver landmarks. Youth will travel to the Capilano Suspension Bridge where they will experience Canyon Lights. Millions of twinkling lights transform the iconic bridge and park into a sparkling holiday wonderland. This year, there is a new feature for young people to experience — Wildlight, a mesmerizing 3D wildlife projection.
No holiday experience would be complete without a visit to the Vancouver Christmas Market. The Market is a German-themed village where youth can watch live shows, ride the carousel, check out artisan huts, and try a variety of treats.
Of course, there’s a lot to be said about staying in and sharing experiences with one another. In addition to the lovingly prepared meals, by our Food Services team, youth will be treated to Nando’s chicken and pizza parties. To balance the savoury meals, youth will enjoy an ice cream party.
Arts and crafts are a great way share joy and express yourself over the holidays. At CHV, youth will be provided with kits to build their own gingerbread houses. It’s a sweet way to share some laughs and showcase talents. Youth will also create unique clothing designs during a tie-dye party.
We will continue our yearly distribution of backpacks full of essentials and holiday treats, along with the delivery of new pajamas, so that youth can feel snug and cozy, over the holidays.
The holidays can be a difficult time for some youth, but your unwavering support helps fill their hearts with joy and hope. It is because of you that youth receive warm meals, clothing, and the tools that they need to build the futures that they want for themselves.
It is because of you that youth will be able to celebrate this holiday season.
