Youth Work

Youth Work

A youth worker’s role is to build trusting, supportive, professional relationships with youth.

They work with the team to determine the best plan of care for youth to help them reach their goals and transition to healthy, confident adults. Youth workers spend time with youth every day and are available at all hours to support youth, as needed. They are involved in all of our programs and many of our services.

You will support the youth with personal planning, assist with finding employment, referrals to other social services and involve the youth in recreational opportunities.

Youth workers also:

  • Help youth implement the plan they’ve created with their social worker and work collaboratively with staff to strategize on goals set by youth.
  • Support personal planning.
  • Orient youth entering programs.
  • Take youth to appointments.
  • Accompany youth to drop-in clinics, hospitals.
  • Help youth obtain government-issued identification.
  • Visit youth in hospitals and other care facilities.
  • Provide guidance for youth regarding their education and employment goals.
  • Assist with referrals to counsellors and other supports.
  • Coordinate youth meetings and activities, including recreation and life skills.
  • Support youth at internal events and attend external events with youth.
  • Respond confidently to emergencies and behavioral, mental health, emotional, or substance use concerns using trauma-informed practice.
  • Provide crisis intervention, including responding to overdoes/administering first aid and Naloxone that may happen within CHV premises.
