Covenant House Vancouver is the premier provider of residential and support services for our city’s homeless youth, and we are growing! You will be joining a team of dedicated and committed people whose mission is to help at-risk young people move off the streets and on to independence.

In order to be hired at Covenant House Vancouver as an employee, practicum student, or volunteer, candidates must provide evidence of full courses of Health-Canada approved vaccinations prior to starting their first shift.



The cook prepares meals for youth and staff and maintains orderliness in the food service areas. Maintaining a high level of cleanliness to ensure safe, nutritious and delicious meals are served

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare food from a raw to cooked state in a safe, hygienic manner while maintaining nutritional content and palatability
  • Prepare meals and snacks daily for youth in all programs
  • Office catering as requested
  • Maintain a safe and clean food preparation area
  • Clean kitchen on a daily basis (stove, milk machine, etc.)
  • Clean kitchen equipment in accordance with weekly schedule
  • Clean and organize freezers, fridges and storage rooms weekly
  • Receive and check orders from suppliers
  • Receive and record donations
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A provincial or other vocational or professional certificate/degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience
  • Food Safe certificate
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable interacting with youth experiencing homelessness
