Youth Work
Youth Work
Youth workers spend time with youth every day and are available at all hours to support youth, as needed. They are involved in all of our programs and many of our services.
YOUTH WORKERS:
- Offer companionship, support, and guidance
- Help youth implement the plan they’ve created with their social worker
- Take youth to appointments
- Accompany youth to drop-in clinics, hospitals
- Help youth obtain government-issued identification
- Visit youth in hospitals and other care facilities
- Support personal planning and goal setting
- Assist with referrals to counsellors and other supports
- Attend external events with youth, such as the Pride Parade
- Support youth at internal events, such as Sleep Out
PEER SUPPORT WORKERS:
- Bridge the gaps between youth and staff, by either making those connections themselves or by supporting youth as they connect to staff
- Have been faced with the same, or similar, experiences as the youth we serve, and therefore can provide a unique perspective
- Help ask the right questions and get to the root of the youth’s actions or issues
- Support youth on whatever they are working on
- Provide support to youth, during activities
