March 7 – 13, 2022
This is the 24th year of the Stop the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week, in BC. This week was proclaimed to support communities in developing prevention, education, enforcement and intervention strategies that address the sexual exploitation of children and youth.
Fuchsia was chosen as the ribbon colour to symbolize the efforts in preventing the sexual exploitation of children and youth. Fuchsia represents the blending of red—for red light districts, and purple—the provincial colour for violence prevention.
Although the awareness week is drawing to a close, as a community, we must remain vigilant throughout the year. There are resources available to help communities create a community action network, an action plan, apply for funding, and build awareness.
CHV is a member of the Vancouver Community Action Team and recognizes the importance of supporting communities in developing strategies to address the sexual exploitation of children and youth.
Healthy + Unhealthy Relationships is a guide/tool developed for youth that will help start the dialogue about what a healthy versus unhealthy relationship may look like. Information, tips, and practical tools will help youth recognize potentially exploitative relationships, and it will help service providers facilitate these discussions.
This guide/tool will be available for community partners and service providers working with youth in the community upon request.
For more information or a copy of the guide/tool, please contact Camila Jimenez, Program Manager at cjimenez@plea.bc.ca.
