The holiday season is a time for warmth, togetherness, and the spirit of giving. While many of us look forward to festive gatherings and the joy of exchanging gifts with loved ones, it’s essential to remember that the holidays can be a difficult time for youth at
–risk of or experiencing homelessness.
We understand that the holidays can be a particularly isolating and an emotionally challenging time for the youth in our care. At Covenant House, we are dedicated to making the holiday season special for the young people we serve.
You have the power to bring joy and warmth to these young lives, by contributing to our holiday backpack initiative.
What Goes in the Backpack?
Our holiday backpacks are designed to provide essential items and a touch of holiday cheer. Here’s a glimpse of what we’re looking to include (gender neutral colours):
- Socks (male)
- Boxer brief underwear (full bottom, all sizes)
- Toothpaste (travel size preferred)
- Deodorant (male/female)
- Shaving cream
- Gift cards ($5, $10, $20)
How You Can Make a Difference
Your support is the driving force behind this holiday initiative. Your contributions, whether big or small, will help fill these backpacks with hope and kindness. These backpacks go far beyond addressing physical needs; they offer a sense of comfort and emotional support to those who need it most. They are a heartwarming reminder that they are not alone and that there are people who genuinely care about their happiness and well-being.
So, how can you get involved? It’s simple:
Donate: Your financial contributions are invaluable in purchasing the items needed for the backpacks and organizing the holiday party.
Collect Items: Consider hosting a donation drive to collect warm clothing, toiletries, and other essentials. Every contribution counts.
Spread the Word: Share this initiative with your friends, family, and colleagues. The more people who know about it, the more support we can gather.
This holiday season, join us in filling a backpack with kindness for the young individuals age 16–24 who are looking for hope and support. Your generosity can make a significant difference in their lives during this special time of year. We are accepting donations and gifts-in-kind until December 15th.
