The ZacPac Project: Supporting At-Risk Youth

Zac Weinberg: A Young Philanthropist Making a Big Impact
Zac Weinberg is an extraordinary young man with a heart full of compassion and a drive to make a difference. When Zac and his family moved to Vancouver in 2016, he quickly noticed the high number of people experiencing homelessness and became aware of the daily challenges that they faced. Determined to help, Zac embarked on a research journey to identify the most commonly needed items by those living on the streets. In 2020, at just 12 years old, Zac turned his findings into action and launched the ZacPac Project

What is a ZacPac?
Each ZacPac is a thoughtfully assembled 30-litre dry sack filled with essential items that can make a significant difference in someone’s daily life. Inside each ZacPac, recipients find:

  • A waterproof sleeping bag
  • Socks
  • A hat
  • A toothbrush
  • A reusable water bottle
  • An emergency blanket
  • A granola bar

Zac has successfully garnered financial and in-kind support from a variety of companies, which allows him to expand his reach and impact more lives, each year.

Covenant House Vancouver and ZacPac: A Continuing Partnership
This year marks the third time that Covenant House Vancouver has been fortunate to receive ZacPacs. On May 3rd, Covenant House Philanthropy Officer, Mark Savard joined about 30 volunteers at the Morey Mazda dealership to assemble an impressive 2,400 ZacPacs, for 40 charities. During the event, Mark had the pleasure of meeting Zac, his supportive parents, and a dedicated group of volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that charities, including Covenant House, received their ZacPacs.

Covenant House Vancouver received 160 ZacPacs, which will be distributed to youth who access our Drop-in Centre. These packs provide essential items that not only address immediate needs but also offer a sense of care and dignity to young people facing challenging circumstances.

A Heartfelt Thank You
We extend our deepest gratitude to Zac for his unwavering commitment to helping those in need. His initiative, the ZacPac Project, is a shining example of how one person’s dedication and compassion can create a ripple effect of positive change. Thanks to Zac, many young people at Covenant House, and beyond, are receiving the basic necessities that they need to help them navigate their daily lives.

Thank you, Zac, for making a profound difference in the lives of so many young people. Your efforts remind us all of the power of kindness and the impact that we can have when we come together to support our community.
