About Covenant House Vancouver

Since 1997, Covenant House Vancouver has provided relentless support for youth experiencing, or at-risk of experiencing, homelessness. We provide support to young people age 16 to 24 who have experienced a wide range of early life and ongoing, complex trauma; including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect. Our purpose is to serve all youth, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and provide a safe and supportive environment for all youth in need.

Working at Covenant House will be one of the most meaningful things that you’ll do in your life. However, you will be confronted with significant issues in this work and frankly, this work is not for everyone. In the course of doing your work, particularly for those doing frontline work, you will be exposed to the trauma of others. The youth we serve may also experience overdose, physical harm perpetuated by self or others and even death. Because we provide a relational model of care, the harms our youth experience can impact us in varying degrees.  
 
While we provide training for youth workers on avoiding what we call vicarious trauma (namely, the trauma you can experience or take on by hearing other’s traumatic stories), and a generous allowance for counselling, it is still difficult work that can and does take its toll on many employees. Self-awareness and self-care are key. Some candidates and employees decide during the recruiting and probationary periods that this work isn’t for them, and that is totally fair.

The Impact the Manager, Social Work & Clinical Services can make:

As the Manager, Social Work & Clinical Services you will oversee the multidisciplinary Case Management department and directly guide clinical services in relation to all Covenant House Vancouver program and services. You will work directly under the Director, Clinical Services and Complex Care to optimize Case Management services and develop processes and procedures aligning with Covenant House Mission, Principals, and policies. You will provide guidance, training, support resources and tools to create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for youth and staff.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Provide leadership to the case management team, including social workers and clinical counsellors
  • Support adherence and commitment to Trauma Informed Practice throughout the agency
  • Ensure that case management services are integrated within Covenant House Vancouver’s continuum of services
  • Liaise with department Managers and staff from varying departments to optimize processes and services
  • Manage case management budgets including monthly, quarterly and annual fiscal spending and appropriate reporting
  • Liaise with Research, Evaluation and Learning team to supervise the collection of client reporting, evaluation, ensuring consistency, accuracy and completion
  • Promote staff engagement initiatives and lead the promotion of a healthy, balanced workplace
  • Support other departments in ongoing learning regarding the roles of case management team.
  • Participate in full cycle recruiting including monitoring staffing levels, conducting interviews and selection (internally and externally)Manage staffing levels with consideration of required training, time off, department needs
  • Provide supervision and performance management including probationary reviews, annual performance reviews and professional development plans for case management staff
  • Promote and recognize employee excellence and recognition
  • Ensure compliance with applicable training, orientation, and onboarding processes
  • Support and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with all department
  • Continually review and reassess effectiveness of services, process, policies, procedures by identifying barriers
  • Employee relations, conflict resolution, investigations
  • Advocate for youth, staff, and the Agency
  • Collaborate with programs to support youth through case review meetings and as needed consultation
  • Utilize trauma-informed practice when responding to emergencies or potential mental health, emotional, or substance use concerns using trauma-informed practice
  • Other duties as required

Who We Are Looking For?

Education and Experience:

  • Masters of Social Work preferred, or related Social Service/Program or combination of education and related experience
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of related experience in direct supervision of a frontline team
  • First Aid and Non Violent Crisis Intervention training considered an asset

  • Highly evolved ability to practice conflict resolution, active listening and problem solving.
  • Able to manage competing deadlines and prioritize workload
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed practice, including barriers that at risk and vulnerable youth face.

Compensation

The successful candidate can expect a starting salary of between $85,000.00 and $110,000.00 depending on factors such as internally equity, experience, competencies, and education.
