World Kindness Day was created by the World Kindness Movement in an effort to promote a kinder world.
In a busy world, awareness days, such as this, are a reminder to pause, take a breath, get out of your head, and reach out and show kindness to someone. It can be as simple as a smile to a stranger or holding the door for someone.
At Covenant House Vancouver (CHV), we see kindness expressed in a variety of ways. Donors and volunteers are at the heart of what we do. All of our programs, services and care for youth are supported by people and organizations in our community. This kindness shows youth that people care about them and their futures, and that a community doesn’t thrive unless all of its members are thriving.
In fact, last year, 15,000 donated articles of clothing helped youth stay cool in the summer, warm in the winter, as well as help them establish their own identities.
Volunteers make a difference by supporting both staff and youth. From preparing meals in the kitchen, to tutoring youth, volunteers show kindness daily to all they come in contact with. Last year, 110 individuals volunteered every month on average, and 62 corporate donor groups helped around CHV, in a variety of ways.
Thank you, to our donors and volunteers, for showing kindness throughout the year!
We would like to do a shout out to Scotiabank who have been supporting CHV since 2018, through their ScotiaRISE initiative and through volunteering.
Scotiabank believes that investing in young people is an investment in the future of our communities. This fall, we are grateful to Scotiabank who is contributing $50,000, to match every dollar donated, until December 31.
